CLOSET: Father & I

March 2022

Performance & Installation

The Closet: Father & I was inspired by my exploration of my relationship with my father. Via thinking about the bullying and discrimination of marginalized masculinity in patriarchal families in the contemporary Chinese context, mixed with the entanglement of the younger generation in Chinese families towards the patriarchal-submissive relationship, expressing my silent revolt against patriarchal bullying.

The footprints drifting away on the bandage is a signal of the estranged relationship between father and son, and the gradually surrounded cube is a metaphor for an invisible closet built by the family patriarchal bullying, which obstructs a lot of sexual minorities that are unable to come out to their families.
