Five Senses of Worship: Observations on Chinese Buddhism
This research publication brings together photographs, data and interview material gathered throughout the project. Using the five human senses, sight, sound, smell, taste and touch, as an organising framework, I examined the continuity and transformation of Buddhist practices in contemporary China.
The publication itself extends this research through its material and graphic design. Drawing on traditional bookmaking and craft techniques, I explored how the physical qualities of the book could evoke the sensory and ritual dimensions of Chinese Buddhist culture
